Barotrauma refers to injuries caused by excessive pressure of air and water, for example, flying or diving. It is common ear barotrauma. The generalized barotrauma, also called decompression sickness, affects the entire body.

The middle ear (includes the eardrum and the space behind it), has only one connection to the outside which is a thin channel called the Eustachian tube. This tube connects the ear to the back of the mouth. Swallowing can feel a click in the ears, this is due to a bubble of air moving through the eustachian tube. These bubbles are constantly moving into the middle ear, which balance the pressure inside the ear. The ear barotrauma occurs when these bubbles are totally or partially blocked.

On the plane, ear barotrauma, also called aero-otitis or barotitis, occurs when the plane descends. The ear barotrauma can also occur when divers descend. The pressure change can create a vacuum in the middle ear to the eardrum pushes out. This can cause pain. Tablets ears feel like I need to explode.

In more severe cases of barotrauma, the middle ear can fill with clear fluid. The fluid leaves the blood vessels in the lining of the inner ear and can only drain if the Eustachian tube opens. When there is fluid behind the eardrum is called otitis media with effusion. It can cause pain and hearing difficulty similar to that of a middle ear infection.

The eardrum can perforate (rupture) in acute cases of ear barotrauma, causing bleeding or fluid loss of hearing. A perforated eardrum can cause hearing loss. In severe cases, it may generate a pressure loss between the deeper structures of the ear (the bony labyrinth, cochlea and semicircular canals) and the middle ear space. There is loss of fluid when there is a fistula. If this occurs, may be affected the center of balance, which causes dizziness and sensation [on turning, called vertigo. This complication may require emergency surgery.

Barotrauma is a common problem in traveling by plane. It is more likely in people who have colds, allergies or infections. It is common in children because their eustachian tubes are narrower than adults and become blocked more easily.

Pulmonary barotrauma is uncommon in passengers. It happens in the divers, this form of barotrauma creates a vacuum in the lungs and can cause bleeding in the lung tissue. A most common form of pulmonary barotrauma is caused by mechanical ventilation systems used in intensive care units. Barotrauma associated with the respirator is a medical complication.

While childhood children are more likely to suffer than girls, in adulthood the trend is balanced in both sexes. Both they and them when suffering from ADHD (attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity) may exhibit the following characteristics:

- Disorganization, restlessness and inability to relax
- Can not meet a schedule, are late for important events
- Forgot frequent events, commitments and responsibilities
- Changes in mood and low self-esteem
- Difficulty controlling their emotions, especially anger

No wonder they find it extremely difficult to maintain employment due to lack of organization and the failure and unreliability. In fact, according to a survey in the United States at the national level, only half of adults with ADHD can maintain a permanent full-time employment compared with 72% of workers who do not. His personal life also suffered: as they forget their commitments, family events and even essential tasks like paying bills, problems with your partner and your family are common, which is worsened by his irritability and the tendency of employers irregular behavior.

Look closely, it is important to make clear that there are people who definitely are irresponsible in their work, which do not fulfill their obligations and that attack and offend others with their behavior out of control. The ADHD is neither excuse nor justification for such behavior. Sufferers act well despite their good wishes and intentions and can not help for problems of a chemical imbalance in certain brain areas. Looking back, it is easy to identify these patterns since they were children. As early as adolescence and youth, can join other disorders such as anxiety and depression and are more prone to obsessive-compulsive behaviors and acquire destructive habits like drugs and alcohol abuse. Fortunately, all this can be overcome with proper treatment.

Treatment of ADHD (attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity) in adults includes, as with children, two channels which ideally should be used together to yield better results: drugs and therapy.
Among the drugs listed are stimulants such as methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta and others) and amphetamines (Dexedrine, Adderall) that help to focus and control behavior. Despite the name, stimulants do not cause an increase in hyperactivity or impulsivity. In some cases using a non-stimulant medication (for both children and adults), atomoxetine or Strattera. Occasionally used other drugs such as antidepressants.
The therapy is also essential to help patients overcome negative behaviors, improve self-esteem and to control anxiety.

Have you noticed any irregular or negative behavior in an adult in your family? Perhaps in yourself? If so, there is help that can represent not only a relief to the person but a total change. Talk to your doctor and request an evaluation as soon as possible to restore order and control in your life.

However, this disorder does not appear suddenly in adulthood. In many cases, never diagnosed during childhood and later is found to treat other conditions such as depression or anxiety.

In other cases (in about 30 to 70% of children with ADHD), the condition persists throughout life. As can be harmful to try to keep a job, can destroy personal relationships and can lead to destructive habits, it is important to acknowledge adequately treat.

If lack of concentration, constant distraction, restlessness and being “in the clouds” which are the typical characteristics of attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity, causing difficulties in the school years, imagine how difficult it is years later keep a job or a stable relationship with the same attributes. Many adults face of failure and social rejection due to ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) without even suspecting that have it and are frustrated because they can not control a behavior that causes problems: they are unable to meet schedules, to complete projects, to remember important commitments have mood swings and even aggressive behavior.

Of course none of this happens in a vacuum nor does it appear suddenly. Adults with ADHD and had symptoms since childhood. In some cases, parents and teachers observed these behaviors and able to identify the disorder. In others, simply blamed the unrest own children, discipline problems, accepting the situation as an inevitable part of the expression of individual personality. Until the passage of time and looking for relief from other conditions such as anxiety and depression, a trained detects the disorder, diagnosed and treated.

Education: Educators develop an individualized education program to address specific problems of the child. This usually includes speech and language and may also include social skills training and practice type to function in life.

Behavior management: strategies of behavior modification include positive reinforcement (rewarding “good” behavior), “time out” (“time out” for example, take the child from the classroom to be quiet) and interventions behavioral complete. The aim is to increase appropriate behavior and reduce inappropriate behaviors such as self-inflicted injuries (which is itself).

Drugs: There is no drug that effectively treat all symptoms of autism. In some children, antipsychotic drugs, such as thioridazine (Mellaril), risperidone (Risperdal) and olanzapine (Zyprexa, Zydis) may reduce some symptoms associated with autism, like aggression, irritability and repetitive behavior. However, these drugs also have undesirable side effects. Antidepressants such as fluoxetine (Prozac) and clomipramine (Anafranil) can treat depression and repetitive behaviors (obsessive-compulsive). Medications for anxiety such as lorazepam (Ativan) may be used for anxiety-related behaviors. Methylphenidate (Ritalin) may be used to treat hyperactive or impulsive behavior.

Some people believe that changes in diet, herbal medicines and other forms of complementary medicine can help autistic children. Researchers are studying these treatments, but so far there is insufficient information to recommend them. Some of the treatments used can be dangerous or have side effects, so be sure to talk with your doctor about any treatment you are considering.

Diagnosis is based on the history of your child’s development over time, observations of behavior (alone and with others) and the results of tests to assess their language skills, motor coordination, hearing and vision . In some cases, proof shall be requested to rule out other diseases that can sometimes seem to autism such as fragile X syndrome.

Duration

Autism spectrum disorder is an illness that lasts a lifetime.

Prevention

Since no one knows the causes of most types of ASD, there is no way to prevent it.

When To Call a Professional

Call the doctor if your child does not try to communicate with others, repeating words or certain actions over and over again or does not seem to want to play with other children as expected. Call immediately if your child is hurting himself.

Forecast

Challenging behaviors observed in autistic children tend to improve between 6 and 10 years. However, problems can recur during adolescence and adult years and then fade back into the midlife and beyond. Some children with autism are able to live independently. Others may struggle to maintain social interactions, communication and normal behaviors.

Experts believe that the sooner a diagnosis is autism spectrum disorder and begin treatment, the prognosis may be better.

Life expectancy depends on whether the person has other diseases (such as epilepsy), besides the general health of the person.

At birth, a child with autism spectrum disorder often appears normal. Symptoms may appear within the first year of life, but parents may not have given that something is not quite right until the child is 2 or 3 years.

Infants with ASD may respond abnormally when touched. Instead of giving a hug when they are raised, may stiffen or relax the muscles. In addition, it may not show behaviors of normal development during the first year of life, such as smiling at the voice of the mother, pointing to objects to draw the attention of someone, reach out to others or try to keep conversations a single syllable. It is likely that the child does not maintain eye contact, which seems unable to distinguish between parents and strangers, and typically show little interest in other people. Symptoms vary from mild to severe.

Some behaviors associated with autism include:

Disorders of the game: usually, a child with autism spectrum disorder ignores other children and prefers to play alone. You may spend hours putting the child objects in a line repeatedly, sitting quietly in a state similar to a trance or concentrate on a single object or topic. Any attempt to distract can cause an emotional outburst. Generally, children with autistic spectrum disorder do not participate in fantasy games.

Speech disorders: it is possible for a child with ASD do not talk much or remain silent. When he speaks, the words may be an echo of what another person said. The manner of speaking may be different. Instead of saying, “I want a sandwich (sandwich)”, the child may ask, “Want a sandwich?”

Repetitive behaviors: a child with ASD may have repetitive behaviors, like repeating the same phrase or a particular movement. It is common to clap, chasqueen fingers, shake, sway and shake hands.
Abnormal behaviors: Children with ASD may experience obsessive routines, such as wanting to take the same route to school every day or take a walk before entering a room or could develop intense concern about something, as parts of objects or a particular activity. Some may become hyperactive, aggressive, destructive or impulsive. Others may hurt themselves intentionally.

People with autism have trouble communicating and interacting socially with others. They may also have patterns, unusual interests and activities (which are not the usual).

There are five types of autism, which doctors use the term autistic spectrum disorder. The three main types include:
- Classic autism.
- Asperger syndrome: a mild form.
- Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS): used to describe a group of children who do not fit the criteria of the other types.

There are also two rare disorders of autism:
- Rett syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder that primarily affects girls. Includes problems with movement and speech, as well as autistic features.
- Childhood disintegrative disorder: a severe form in which the child loses more physical skills, language and social than in classic autism.

Usually, the symptoms of autism spectrum disorder seen in children before the third birthday, but only half are diagnosed in children before they attend kindergarten. The cause of Rett syndrome appears to be a genetic mutation. Despite numerous studies, the causes of other types of autism remain a mystery. Some studies suggest that other forms of autism may be inherited (genetic), while other evidence points to infection or the effects of an environmental toxin (a toxin or poison). Some doctors believe that autism can be caused by brain injury or brain abnormality that occurs during development in utero or early childhood.

Others have provided evidence that the disorder is the result of abnormal levels of chemicals called neurotransmitters, like dopamine and serotonin, which send messages between brain cells and nerves.
Autism spectrum disorder affects about 6 of every 1,000 children, of all racial, ethnic and social, according to the Autism Society of America. All types except Rett syndrome are three to four times more common in boys than in girls.

If you have pneumoconiosis and develops breathing problems, your doctor may recommend avoiding further exposure to dust from the ore. May prescribe one or two drugs that are inhaled to decrease inflammation in your airways and help keep open their airways.

If the blood oxygen level is less than 90%, you may need to breathe oxygen at home. Furthermore, to protect their lungs damaged respiratory infections, your doctor will recommend vaccinations against influenza and pneumococcal infections. If you develop a respiratory infection, you may need to be treated with antibiotics.

When pneumoconiosis causes extreme respiratory problems, the only cure is a lung transplant.

When To Call a Professional

Call your doctor immediately if symptoms of pneumoconiosis and his work has had a high risk of exposure to mineral dust.

Forecast

The prognosis for this disease depends on the specific type of pneumoconiosis, the duration of exposure to mineral dust, the exposure level and if the patient smokes cigarettes.

In the long term, people with asbestosis and pneumoconiosis due to exposure to talcum powder have increased risk of lung cancer and peritoneal mesothelioma (cancer of the lining of the lungs and abdominal cavity). The risk of lung cancer is especially high in smokers with asbestosis.

Since men are more engaged in work at risk of pneumoconiosis, the majority of deaths from this disease are male.

Pneumoconiosis almost always preventable. To reduce the risk, you can:

- Limit exposure to mineral dusts in the workplace: workers who are in daily contact with mineral powders should follow approved measures (protective clothing and equipment) to limit exposure and prevent lead dust on their clothes of asbestos to their homes. If you use a mask or respirator to protect against dust, you should use it properly and according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

- Prevent exposure to asbestos in the home: check your home, especially if you live in an old house, if there is any area exposed to asbestos insulation material containing asbestos or any damaged area. The asbestos in these areas must be removed or sealed (encapsulated) professionally safely.

- Avoid smoking: Smoking worsens the harmful effects of pneumoconiosis. If you smoke, see your doctor to discuss measures to quit smoking.

Pneumoconiosis often causes no symptoms. When symptoms are present, these may include:
- cough (with or without mucus)
- wheezing
- shortness of breath, especially when exercising

If the cause pneumoconiosis severe pulmonary fibrosis, breathing can become extremely difficult. When this happens, the patient’s lips and nails of the fingers may have a bluish tint. In cases of advanced disease may also have signs of inflammation (swelling) caused by too much strain on the heart.

Diagnosis

Your doctor will ask about your exposure to mineral dusts, the number of years who have been exposed and if used protective clothing and equipment. Also check and pay special attention to your chest. They could also do a chest radiograph, which is then compared with a group of standard radiographs issued by the International Labour Organization (International Labor Office) for the evaluation of pneumoconiosis.

Your doctor may ask breathing tests called pulmonary function tests. In some patients it is necessary to computed tomography (CT). Less often, a doctor will order a test called a bronchoscopy with lung biopsy. By this test involves inserting a flexible tube into the lung and removes a piece of lung tissue for examination in a laboratory.
